U-12 Sting Double Medal at Beach Blast

The U-12 Sting entered a split squad of two teams of seven going into the Umbro Beach Blast at Jericho Beach. Both teams went undefeated thru the round robin with Sting Red finishing 3-0-0 and Sting White at 2-0-1. This saw Sting Red in the Gold match where they narrowly lost 1-0 to a full squad team and Sting White took Bronze in extra time on a golden goal from a Taylor Russell free kick. The Sting had a great time out on the beach, working hard and enjoying a different version of the game. Well done ladies.

U-11 Sting Rockin In The USA

Well after months of fundraising, training, games, etc the SurDel Sting finally acheived their goal of playing in the USA Cup in Minnesota. The Sting's first day of the tournament was a big one as they started things off with a bang winning 3-2 against the NSSA Ice, with goals by Jamie Cornes and Hailey Lemon (2). The Sting are playing girls that are anywhere from a year older and the competition is huge both in size and attitude so a win was massive. From there they were off to the opening ceremonies where 15,000 players from approx twenty countries all converge into an Olympic style walk in by the athletes. The Sting were the first Canadian team in and got a massive ovation from the rest of the Canadian fans.

Day #2 was a steam bath as the rains in the morning met the players as they had a private session with Minnesota Thunder head coach Manny Lagos. The Thunder play the Whitecaps so having some one on one time with him was a great experience.

SurDel FC – 3rd place

The SurDel FC women’s team competed in the Leeta Sokalski Cup Provincial B Championships, June 18-20th and finished 3rd. SurDel was the only team in the tournament to win all their pool games with victories over Oceanside (6-0), SBAA Ajax (3-1), and Victoria Gorge (3-1). Hilda Simon scored early to give SurDel a lead over SBAA Hellas in the semi-final match, but the Hellas came back to win the game by a 2-1 score.
