Club Frequently Asked Questions

When does season start?

The regular season will run from September until March. Competitive teams will start league play the 1st Sunday after Labour Day weekend. Mini teams start may vary slightly but will be in September after Labour Day. Your coach will contact you in August (Sept for the U-6 players), to inform you of practice/game times and to hand out uniforms.

Games “when and where?

Most of our games will be played on Sundays there will be some Saturday games. Competitive teams will have home and away games. Mini teams will play locally.

Why do we have to give a uniform deposit?

All players are required to provide a deposit every year- this to ensure that we have all of our uniforms returned. Your cheque is destroyed after your uniform is returned.

When are practices?

Practices depend on the coaches and the coaches schedules. Mini teams and Competitive teams will likely practice a minimum of once a week.

Why do we have to register so early?

SurDel has over 900 players on 69 teams. Competitive teams must be sent in for scheduling in July (over 800 teams must be scheduled prior to September). This is a monumental job and takes several weeks to complete.

What is Mini/Competitive?

Mini players refers to all players under 6 to Under 10 (U-6 to U-10). Competitive refers to all players born from under 11 to under 18 (U-11 to U-18).

How are Mini teams formed?

SurDel Girls Soccer abides by B.C. Soccer rules and regulations in forming Mini teams. Districts and clubs are expected to form teams from all registrants each year in a manner which is nonselective. No teams should retain all players from the previous year, thereby making a select team. Requests for same coaches and teams are not entertained. Each level is permitted to protect a set number of players. U-6 to U-8 may protect 2 players. U-9 may protect 4 players. Our goal is to form balanced teams. Players are rotated keeping in mind school zones and previous playing mates wherever possible. U-10 going to U-11 will have on field evaluations to determine team placements.

What are tryouts?

Tryouts are held for the competitive age groups in order to form our Metro, Gold and Silver A teams. Silver B teams (or house teams) will not have tryouts. Tryouts will commence in April; please check our website for times and details. It is recommended that your child attend as many tryouts as possible. Players wishing to remain at the Silver B (House level) will remain with their previous teams unless a change of team is requested.

Things for parents to remember:

  • Please have your child at practices and games on time.
  • All Executive members and coaches are volunteers.
  • Encourage fair play by applauding both teams.
  • Help our club by discouraging all types of verbal and physical abuse on the field and sidelines.
  • Remember this is your child's sport.
  • Please register early!
