40 Year Milestone

Delta recognizes SurDel achievement

Recently The Corporation of Delta recognized SurDel Girls Soccer with its contribution to sport in Delta. A big thank you goes out to all the past members that have made this club what it is today. You have been a part of making this club a great place for females to play soccer whether five or fourty-five years old.

Here's to another great 40 years!

In Memory of Chantal MacLean

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Chantal MacLean. Chantal recently joined SurDel in her senior year playing for the SurDel Inferno. She was a strong and committed player, athlete and friend to her new teammates.  Chantal was the type of player you could play anywhere on the field. Leading up to her position with the Inferno, Chantal began her soccer career playing with Langley FC and most recently in the BCSPL with the Coastal FC 97’s. Aside from being a strong soccer player, she was following her dream playing for Clayton Heights Seconday in girls rugby. The teen led her Tier II B.C. high school team, the Night Riders, to a provincial championship last May in Vancouver, scoring three converts in a 31-5 victory over Alberni. MacLean was also named to Team BC's U-18 roster, and in August went on to win national gold in Calgary by defeating Ontario 10-7.

At this time our thoughts and prayers are with the MacLean family and her friends and teammates across the lower mainland.

Photos From 40th Anniversary Celebration

Don Lightbody and Dianne Voice

SurDel hosted a pancake breakfast on Sunday Sept. 21 to celebrate its 40th anniversary. With the sun shining over 1300 people enjoyed pancakes throughout the morning. It was great to see our membership, coaches, past and present executive and some visiting teams enjoying themselves.
Mr. Don Lightbody the founder of Surdel was also present with his wife. Don was outfitted with our new SurDel coaching jacket, hat and scarf which he wore with a smile throughout the morning. A truly interesting man full of stories about how SurDel began back in 1974. When there was no place for girls to play soccer Don created one and formed SurDel. A special thank you goes out to the North Delta Lions Club for flipping our pancakes and to our U16 players from the SurDel Strikers and DCS Sting that came and helped make this event a success.

Here's some photos from the 40th anniversary meetup of SurDel coaches, executive and players. Check out the image gallery.
