Welcome to the August 2007 Byte Size Coaching Newsletter.
In this issue we use a rude word. Well, not really! The word is “communication†and we all know how important that is. And we all realize that we have to get better at it – in all aspects of our lives.
We look at Communication because of the challenge that is presented within community soccer organization in “getting the word out.â€
Our featured club this month is Prince William Soccer (Inc.) situated in Virginia and based 20 miles from downtown Washington DC. As you will see, they have initiated a great communication system for the players, parents and coaches.
We also look at the state of the game in the United States and Canada in the article “Has the Game Finally Arrived?†Some of us believe it has - at just about every level - but Ann Killion, a soccer aficionado and a writer for the San Jose Mercury News does not agree.
We’d like to hear your opinion – one way or the other.
Talking with my old friend Derek Possee – emphasis on old (Oops sorry!) – the former Tottenham, Millwall and Crystal Palace striker, who was my first signing for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the NASL in 1977, we both agreed on the same thing. The game of soccer is finally here to stay – every level – in both the United States and Canada.
It’s not because of David Beckham or a 60,000 crowd in Giant Stadium the other week for the Red Bulls vs. Galaxy game. It is because the game of soccer is now part of the very fabric of America and Canadian culture.
