Our featured products this month - Coaching in the Game Methodology
Coaching in the Game is a coaching method that is particularly well-suited to soccer, a sport that places the decision-making responsibilities on the player. Its use of realistic, free-flowing play makes it easier for players to transfer what they learn in training to match situation.Coaching in the Game Methodology

Welcome to the September 2007 Byte Size Coaching Newsletter.
As we reach the final stages of the Women’s World Cup (this weekend in China) we have taken a couple of days out of the diary of Andy Donahue, our BSC man in Singapore, who took his daughter to Chengdu to see the US play Sweden in Group play two weeks ago. This was a happier time for the American team and their fans than the semi-final shock at the hands of Brazil today. Shock? Maybe not! The Brazilian women have given notice throughout the tournament that they are the team to beat. Next up! Germany.
The new Byte Size Coaching program is now at the World of Soccer offices and we begin the exciting task of upgrading the website.
Our featured “club†this month is not a club at all. It is the Illinois Soccer Coaches Association and this is a first for BSC. We are delighted to have a soccer coaches association come on board.
All the Best.
Tony
Women’s World Cup in China - Priceless!
Â
Women's World Cup in China: September 14-16, 2007
Cost of tickets to see US Women play Sweden in the World Cup: Free (complementary tickets)
Cost of hotel and meals for a long weekend: $200 (China is inexpensive)
Cost of flights for two to Chengdu, China: Who cares?
A lifelong daddy-daughter weekend: Priceless!
No TV! Guess I'd better finish my book, "Three Cups of Tea" (which I highly recommend).
That was my first reaction as I walked on board the China Airlines flight to Chengdu, China, last Friday.
After 4.5 hours of reading and dozing and snacking on peanuts, we (me and my 12 year old daughter McKenna) began our descent into Chengdu. We could see land and houses and villages and were struck with how brown everything looked.
"Are they having some sort of drought?" my daughter asked? A large river snaked through the landscape of landlocked puzzle pieces. It did look awfully brown.
We're arriving in China! I was struck by the thought that this wouldn't have been possible when I was 12.
Following the crowd to customs was easy, and the signs unexpectedly were written in both English and Chinese. We filled out the necessary three forms upon entry - all asking for essentially the same information. A quick bathroom stop (Oh, no! Would they have squatty-potty's or Western style? You never know in Asia) and we were through to baggage claim. Our bag was one of the first to arrive - which never happens!
Featured BSC Club -Illinois Soccer Coaches Association.
Â
(www.soccer-icsa.org)The four founding members are President Pete Richardson, Lou Reina (Vice-President), John DeJulio (Treasurer) and Kevin Lesch (Secretary).
Lou Reina was already familiar with the Byte Size Coaching program having used it when he was the Director of Coaching with his previous club, the Greater Libertyville Soccer Association.
Lou says: "Among other things, we handle background checks on EVERY MEMBER of our association. This is a huge factor in that most soccer associations out there push the liability off to other entities. Many clubs in fact do not even do the checks and this is obviously is a monumental liability issue in our state.'
This week we finally signed off on the new version of our Byte Size Coaching site. Not that many of our BSC clubs going to notice. Well, not for the moment anyway.
We want to make sure that when we change it is as seamless as possible. And right now would not be a good time for most clubs as nearly all of them are at the busiest time of the year - the fall season.
As well, it is going to require a re-launch of the program to the coaches as login information - User Names and Passwords - will change. The perfect time is the start of a new season.
