Welcome to our October World of Soccer Newsletter.
We start on a very sad note. The game of soccer in North America suffered a tragic loss with the passing of Glenn (Mooch) Myernick on October 9th after a massive heart attack. Anyone who has been, or is involved, in the game in the United States and Canada has been the beneficiary directly or indirectly of the work that Glenn did on behalf of soccer. Glenn made an incredible contribution to soccer in this part of the world and was an outstanding person.

Soccer is a changing world. And so is the coaching of soccer.
Recently the United States Soccer Federation put out a directive to encourage coaches to work in game situations without too many interventions.We know that standing in lines and working on drills is not very exciting for young and even not-so-young soccer players, but to expect young players to learn the skills of the game merely by playing is a little naïve. However, I totally agree that drill-like practices are one of the main reasons young players are turned off the game of soccer. Full Story

I think you will find these articles pretty informative, but more importantly, you will have a chuckle. Hey! Please feel free to forward the WOS Newsletter on to friends or fellow coaches. In each newsletter we will have two practices - one for 6 - 12 year olds and the other for 13 - 18 year olds.
In each practice or game we will put in the Progressions and/or Variations that will enable each practice to be modified to make sure players have success, but that they are also challenged. The trick is the practice must be fine tuned to make sure it is at the level of the player's age and ability.
