So here comes the second Newsletter of the “New” World of Soccer. At this stage, we have not fully established the format for our newsletter because we want to see (and hear) what you would like included. With our stats program we can measure which pages are being viewed and just as importantly, those which are not and so can adjust accordingly. For instance, the two practices scored big last time.Excuse us for a bit of self-promotion with the article surrounding the Ace Coaching Cards. But we have also put in a special price for the cards for any of our readers who might want to take advantage over the next two months. As many of you know, we are in the process of upgrading our Byte Size Coaching Program – courtesy of our recent partnership with Insinc . Most of you will have received the Media Release from two weeks ago. If not click here to find out more.

These are demanding and exciting times as we re-direct ourselves into the Brave New World of the 21st Century. Hang on to your hats. No doubt it is going to be a thrilling and at times, bumpy ride. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Keep Your Cards Close to Your Chest

Keep Your Cards Close to Your Chest

In last month's newsletter we speculated about the ability to "coach" and mentor online. Some like it. Some don't. The truth is this method of communicating is here to stay.

A recent report suggested that people who spend more than one hour a day on the internet are becoming anti-social, do less chores around the house, sleep less and ....wait for it, cause we all know it - are less physically active.

I'm a member of the Long Term Player Development Committee in Canada - an initiative by Sports Canada and the Canadian Soccer Association, with active support from Health Canada. Health Canada knows the more time that Canadians spend on the soccer field the less time they will spend at the doctors and in the hospitals (with less money needed to be spent on health). All of us soccer aficionados would agree with that.

Don't Fly with Me

Remember Sinatra's great rendition of "Come Fly With Me"?

I've written the sequel - "Don't Fly With Me!"

The title is not very original, but the facts are indisputable.

On July 9th I set off from Vancouver to Wilkes Barre in Pennsylvania. I eventually got there via Toronto, flying back west to Chicago and then east again to Wilkes Barre. Just to make sure everything did not go too smoothly, we were delayed in Chicago and arrived one hour late at midnight - 13 hours from start to finish. I can get to the UK from Vancouver in 4-hours less than that.

I was making for Bloomsburg University - an hour's drive from the Wilkes Barre/Scranton airport - for one of the NSCAA Academies. The Academies were great. Pity the travel wasn't.”

Boot Room Archive

The

As bona fide alumnus in the 70’s of the original Boot Room at the mighty Liverpool Football Club, in each newsletter I will include one article from the “old” World of Soccer Boot Room. I think you will find these articles pretty informative, but more importantly, you will have a chuckle. Hey! If you don’t think that’s important, go sit in your closet for two hours and see how much fun that is.

This months article is called "Skankly - Liverpool and Everton"

Practices

Please feel free to forward the WOS Newsletter on to friends or fellow coaches. In each newsletter we will have two practices - one for 6 - 12 year olds and the other for 13 - 18 year olds.

In each practice or game we will put in the Progressions and/or Variations that will enable each practice to be modified to make sure players have success, but that they are also challenged. The trick is the practice must be fine tuned to make sure it is at the level of the player's age and ability.
