
The Coquitlam Labour Day tournament is always well run and provides good competition to start the regular season off with. This year was no different as the Sting faced some strong sides during the round robin play. The sting went undefeated against Abbotsford, North Shore and finished off round robin play by defeating Semiahmoo Nitro 3-2 in a nail biter match that provided the fans with the opportunity to watch some excellent high intensity soccer. The gold medal game against Burnaby was a hard fought physical game. Burnaby went ahead in the second half 1-0 after scoring on a penalty kick resulting from a handball in the area. Towards the end of the game Lindsey Briggs was taken down in the penalty area resulting in a penalty kick which she put home past the Burnaby keeper. In the first overtime period Karm Jawandha took a through ball from the midfield and put it by the charging Burnaby keeper. Final score 2-1 Surdel Sting.
