U16 Sting at the Nationals

We are very proud of our Sting girls and the way they played in Nova Scotia at the U-16 National Championships in Sydney Nova Scotia this past week. The weather was incredible and the Cape Breton people were so friendly and helpful, we all had a tremendous experience. The girls played hard and with a little luck could have been in the medal hunt, however after a couple of close agonizing losses, the girls picked it up and finished with three wins to place 5th out of 12 teams.

We are losing two of our girls from last years' team. Jessa Joles came from Vernon this past year to play for the Sting, and was a big reason why we won our third Provincial Championship in four years. We wish her well in her future with soccer.

Jennifer Castillo has played for the Sting since U-13, an inspiring and talented player, Jen has been one of our captains and unquestionably one of the top leaders on and off the field. She has been selected for the WhiteCaps Residency Program. Jen Castillo has been a huge part of the Stings' success over the past four seasons
Jens' parents, Willie and Ruth, will be sorely missed. We wish Jennifer all the best as she pursues a career in soccer.

We would like to thank our Sting parents for their tremendous support in Sydney. At times they were outnumbered but were never outdone in their cheering and support. They too represented Surdel and British Columbia very well with their enthusiasm, personality and class.

We would also like to thank everyone in the club that helped support the Sting team with our fundraising efforts before we left. We are all very proud to have represented both SurDel Girls Soccer Club and British Columbia.
Special thanks to Karen Johnson (manager), Bev Parno (assistant coach), and Kyla Hiebert (assistant coach). Chilton, Shirley, Marj, Jeff and many other parents who either organized fundraisers, participated in events or sold tickets to get us to Nova Scotia.

Thanks again -- Wayne Trafton Surdel Sting
